God’s desire is for all men to be saved and come to the knowledge (Greek: Epignosis) of the truth. The reason for bringing salvation to all men isn’t only for them to receive it and escape eternal damnation but also to come into an intimate knowledge, a fellowship or oneness with the truth. That’s when you really start living. For example, 1 Peter 1:23 says, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” This means you’re born of the Word; you’re the Word in flesh! In this inextricable union with Christ, God no longer distinguishes you from Him. No wonder Jesus said, “…I am the vine, ye are the branches…” (John 15:5). He was pointing out that we now share the same life with Him, because life comes through the vine, into the branches. Another beautiful part of our oneness with Jesus Christ is that it didn’t end with our baptism into His death, but continues in a newness of life by His resurrection from the dead.
